Who I Am

I’m Alexander Myers, a 4th year Bachelor of Commerce student at the University of Victoria, just about graduated. My journey into technology began as a child creating game servers, customizing my Linux Mint install, and tinkering with both hardware and software, which sparked a passion for system administration and containerization that continues to drive me today.

My technical expertise is entirely self-taught through a combination of Udemy courses, Coursera certifications, various textbooks, and countless hours exploring FOSS GitHub projects. My experential approach primarily targets reskilling and market readiness during the uncertain AI future.

Professional Focus

Infrastructure & DevOps - Building scalable homelab infrastructure with Linux system administration, Docker containerization, and automation scripts

AI & Machine Learning - Implementing decentralized AI solutions and exploring agentic frameworks to augment productivity and technical capabilities

Development & Automation - Creating automation scripts for system updates, server housekeeping, and efficiency optimization across homelab environments

Business & Strategy - Bridging technical expertise with business acumen through my BCOM education to align technology solutions with business objectives and acumen

Marketing & Design - Leveraging technical understanding to create user experiences that solve real problems while maintaining system reliability and accessiblity

Technical Philosophy

I believe in:

  • Free, open source, scalable solutions over complex vendor lock-in
  • Maintainable infrastructure that teams can understand and extend
  • User-focused design that solves real problems, augmenting rather than challenging the user
  • Continuous learning by keeping up with technologies developed by an ever diverse development base
  • Data-driven decisions backed by measurable outcomes and good long-term prioritization

Current Technical Pursuits

  • Homelab infrastructure optimization and Linux system administration
  • Container orchestration and Docker-based service deployment
  • AI augmentation and Model Context Protocol/Agentic toolsets
  • Automation scripts for system maintenance and efficiency
  • FOSS project exploration and technical literacy improvement
  • Strategic business applications of emerging technologies
  • Graphic and Marketing Design

Homelab Specifications

My learning environment is powered by:

  • CPU: Intel i9-9900K
  • RAM: 32GB DDR4
  • Storage: 12TB in mirror configuration for data redundancy
  • OS: Linux-based systems for maximum learning flexibility
